BRINGIN' IT BACK:

#throwback to when layering was in

I remember in elementary school, one of my favorite outfits to wear was one in which I layered a bunch of colorful tops so that each color would show at the bottom. I would even match it for the season: red, white, and blue for 4th of July and more neutral tones during the fall. Something about layers and being able to show off more than one style felt really cool to little ol' me. Now, I understand it's summer and wearing the outfit featured in this blog is kind of out of the picture for most, but I still think it would be a good source of inspiration for future ones! Slip dresses are definitely the new trend and it's especially perfect for the hot season since the fabric is so thin and lightweight. Layering this white long-sleeve under really made the dress pop and added a more "nostalgic" aspect to the overall look (shoutout to elementary school me). To make this a bit more unique, I added a beret

I bought at a thrift store in Dublin and wore my favorite Dr. Marten's to add a bit of toughness. I completed the outfit by sporting a dark lip which I believe pulled the look together. Since the weather is burnin' up, I would recommend wearing a white short sleeve under (obvs) and tie your hair up into a chic bun while ditching the boots for a pair of strappy sandals.

What are some trends that you loved during your childhood that you think would make an awesome comeback? I mean, culottes have been pretty much the new "it" item that many style influencers have been sporting lately and I absolutely dig it.

BACK AT IT:

Did you miss me?

Woohoo! I am back on The Rachel Story!

It's been quite an intense quarter at school so far and the thought of posting on my blog was honestly the last thing on my mind. However, I didn't want to neglect something I actually enjoyed doing (plus writing an entry is a bit of a stress reliever). I have been busy, but I'm still so thankful to God for the many things He's blessed me with. So, here I am with another OOTD post that my lovely friends help me shoot.

The weather is finally cooling down and despite the harshness of the sun, I can still wear my fall/winter clothing like my trusty ol' Dr. Martens boots and this lacy black dress I've been saving all summer. This dress was actually bought on sale for less than $15...The Rachel Story strikes again!

How have you been styling your outfits for this season? Any style steals?

A FLOWER FOR YOU:

How many different ways can I style a dress?

 LOOK 3:

I love online shopping--seriously, it's an addiction! My favorite sites include those which offer free shipping (ya'll know me and my frugality) and of course, offer a wide variety of clothing items that match my sartorial needs. I often visit choies.com to check out what's new in their "for sale" category; I also occasionally enter their Free Trial Center giveaways in which customers can have a chance to obtain the latest trends...for FREE. So, when I finally received an email stating that I'd won the dress worn in the photos above, I literally screamed with excitement!

While I had to write a short review for the flower-print dress, I thought it'd be a good idea to style it in a couple different ways. I hope it can inspire you for your future fashion endeavors, especially for this upcoming summer season.

DESERT GETUP:

Dressing for the desert in the middle of winter
is actually not as hard as it seems...

Can you spot the photobomber?

I expected the weather in the desert during Christmas time to be, well, quite cold. However, it was completely the opposite--I mean the sun was out and it was peaking over 80 degrees! As I checked the weather app on my phone (as I always do when packing for trips out of town) I realized it would be easy to pack since I did not require many of articles of clothing to layer. It would be like summer all over again. Of course, I would be lying if I didn't say the heat was a bit disappointing. It's winter! I think SoCal deserved some cold, hand-rubbing, coat-wearing weather, no?

With the weather forecast in mind, I decided to wear this outfit to the national park: I added the denim shirt around my waist as an ode to the winter weather that could have been. Also, it would have come in handy if, IF, the weather decided to change and drop in temperature.

Oh, and Happy New Year!
