MUST TRY ACAI BOWLS IN SD

Throughout college, I've discovered some amazing things about how life can be spent in San Diego. One such occasion was the day I tried my first bowl of acai. Talk about a whole-new-world moment.

According to my best friend Wikipedia, acai bowls, or açaí na tigela ("açaí in the bowl) originate from Brazil and are typically served smoothie style in a bowl and topped with ingredients such as guaraná syrup, granola, bananas, and other fruits. Acai bowls are packed with nutrients and they make the perfect on-the-go snack/meal.

Despite its often heavy non-college-Rachel friendly price tag, acai bowls are a delightful treat that I like to indulge myself in every once in a while.

I've listed here some of my favorite places to eat acai bowls in San Diego. Are these any of your faves? Any acai bowl place I must try either in San Diego or elsewhere? Let me know so I can add to my hunt for the ultimate acai bowl experience!

1. OB Smoothie Bar & Subs

Why: The most bang for you buck! Each bowl is sure to make you full to the brim!

2. Northside Shack

Why: These are packed with the most variety of toppings I've ever seen on any acai bowl. The acai smoothie itself is perfectly tarty too!

3. Amazona Acai Cafe

Why: From what I've heard, Amazona has the most authentic Brazilian acai you can get in SD. This place also serves their bowls with guarana syrup!

4. Nektar

Why: Ah, my first introduction to the wonderful super fruit. I'd say,  Nektar did a pretty ace job!

5. Better Buzz

Why: Not only do they serve amazing coffee, but Better Buzz also serves acai bowls that are just as good! Plus the interior of each store is very instaworthy ;)

FANCY DATES & FATTY PLATES

Reminiscing in the last bits of
what I ate this past summer...

Typing up this blog post is making miss all the delicious food I ate this past summer. My stomach is currently growling and my lack of kitchen food/supplies in my new apartment is making me a little depressed...

In this FOODLICIOUS post, I will show you what I ate in my last days of vacation: some dishes may seem quite appetizing and others, not so much. However, it's never a good idea to judge a food by its cover. Each bite I consumed of every meal was so delicious! Let me tell you a little something about all of them:

This is where I had a mother/daughter double-date with my best friend, her mom, and mine! The food here was as fancy as the resort and equally luxurious in taste. You could tell they put a lot of effort into creating their dishes and I hear the brunch is not so bad either!

This coffee shop is known for their hipster vibe and of course, their coffee! I tried their famous mint mojito one and let me tell you: I may not be an expert in coffee, but this blend was the perfect combination of sweet/minty/bitterness! Check it out if you're ever in Santa Monica~

For those of you who may know me, I am a donut-fanatic. I will eat donuts like it's nobody's business. So when I heard that a new Dunkin' Donuts had open all the way in the West Coast, I nearly fainted with glee. The donuts were as tasty as donuts can ever be and the aroma of the shop made me miss New York all the more...

Now, the pictures I took of these desserts do not do them any justice. This place has the best snow ice I've tried thus far. The spoonfuls of ice melt beautifully in your mouth and yummy fruit on top add a nice flavor to the overall dish.

I can't wait to share with you the food I eat down here in San Diego! Stay tuned for more yummy posts!

Ta ta for now,

Rachel

CRONUTS, PASTRAMI, & MORE:

One can never consume
too many cronuts...

I am back for another food entry on my blog! Let's get right into it, shall we?

One of many cute cafes in Koreatown, Los Angeles. My friends and I decided to share some Korean-style shaved ice packed with tons of fruit and ice cream (just thinking about it makes me miss my visits to Korea all the more!).

Probably the best pastrami sandwich I've tasted to date. The meat, sauce, and cheese melt beautifully into an amazing deli concoction. Their famous #9 meal is the perfect mix of salty and savory--plus the fries are made to a beautiful crisp! The place is great for a quick lunch meal, but can also accommodate families for dinner.

I have finally consumed the very hyped CRONUT and let me tell you: it's delish. Although the restaurant is known for their sandwiches, I purchased a nutella cronut as a light breakfast and devoured it with great, great pleasure. Make sure to visit in the morning when the pastries are fresh out of the oven!

Yogurtland, Chipotle, and Blaze Pizza: what do they all have in common? The food is customizable! Food that you personally prefer is always on top of my list. The thin crust and additional sauces (like pesto and BBQ) made this visit to Blaze an awesome experience.

I hope you enjoyed this yummy post! Did it make you drool a little?

Catch ya'll very soon,

Rachel
